BEHNA

A PEACE TREATY’s S/S 2010 BEHNA Collection, in a romantic ode to the desert’s abandoned vastness and shades of changing light, showcases delicate hand-dyed sheer silk wraps. These oversize handwoven gauzy silk pieces come in varying luminous hues and are imbued with metallic tila yarn.

Each scarf has been meticulously dip-dyed by hand and finished by women who have somehow been disadvantaged. The BEHNA project brings dignified work to women in need who are unable to gain employment because they are physically disabled or have been widowed. These women artisans are rebuilding their lives "by their own hands." A PEACE TREATY remains steadfast to its strict philosophy of returning the traditional production of accessories to the hands of its original artisans (rather than factories) with each design being limited to no more than 60 pieces.
